A multi-pronged approach to cyber security offers holistic protection at a time when ransomware attacks are on the rise and the Singapore Government is beefing up legislation to better protect essential services against cyber attacks
SINGAPORE, 28 July 2017 - In response to the rising need for increased cyber security measures, ViewQwest has launched its new cyber security suite, Security 360°.
Cyber security is now one of the foremost concerns for enterprises and consumers alike. For instance, the WannaCry ransomware attacks earlier this year cost companies all over the world almost US$4 billion1. Analysts are estimating that cyber attacks targeting cloud services could lead to losses as much as US$53 billion2. Closer to home, the Singapore Government is now proposing a far-reaching Cyber Security Bill that aims to increase the resiliency of essential services such as telecommunications, banking, healthcare, transport and energy through an early incident alert and response system.
Recognising the danger that such attacks present, ViewQwest has partnered with industry-leading cyber security experts to offer a multi-pronged approach to cyber security, with a suite of managed services focused on 4 key areas - Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Managed Detection and Remediation (MDR), Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Protection, and Managed Network Security.
Vignesa Moorthy, Chief Executive Officer of ViewQwest said: "We applaud the Singapore Governmen's bold and forward-thinking plans to introduce legislation to beef up cyber security at a national level. At ViewQwest, we feel that it is timely to expand our focus on cyber security to help businesses here better navigate the increasingly murky waters of cyberspace."
These services are offered as managed services, which means that users only need to decide which services they require and ViewQwest will take care of the rest.
Large enterprises with IT departments can work with ViewQwest's team to configure these security services to meet their corporate security policies. For smaller businesses which do not have the luxury of an IT team, ViewQwest offers a fuss-free system where ViewQwest will handle all the nitty gritty of setting up and monitoring the cyber defences so that the business owner can focus on business - instead of worrying about attacks.
Protecting against unknown malware
The recent zero-day attacks from WannaCry and NotPetya ransomware malware is proof that users can no longer rely on signature-based cyber security offerings alone.
ViewQwest's Managed Detection and Remediation (MDR) security service sets up a "last line of defence" for individual devices to protect against malware that are not even known to the world at large.
MDR works by scanning all the processes that are taking place in the device. When a malware attempts to infect the device, the MDR software detects the infection attempt, then blocks and isolates the malware in real time. What is unique is that the MDR solution is able to isolate malware without requiring the user to shut down his or her device.
Thus, users can continue working on their PC, and companies can maintain work productivity and ensure that the infected files are contained within the user's device without risk of further spreading to the rest of the network.
Securing data exchange in the cloud
Businesses are turning to cloud-based applications such as Office 365, Dropbox, Gmail, Salesforce and more to power their businesses. These cloud applications offer the convenience of running business software without worrying about the complex underlying IT, the ability to scale through pay-as-you-use utility computing and the wonders of ubiquitous access through smartphones and other mobile devices.
But this rising trend of users bringing their own unprotected devices to work is also creating new enterprise vulnerabilities. Cloud apps work by setting up a secure "tunnel" between the device and the server, bypassing the usual network firewall security. In the event that a user downloads an infected file, this can compromise the entire network of the company.
ViewQwest's new Cloud Security Access Broker (CASB) solution creates an additional layer of protection by setting up a "middleman" to scan all the data files moving between users' devices and the cloud servers. These scanning and cleaning processes are taking place behind the scenes, so for the users, it's "business as usual". Another feature of this solution is the ability for the company to selectively remote wipe the email accounts of employees who have left the company, instead of having to wipe the entire device. The solution also does not require the installation of any software on the users' devices.
"This feature is key at a time when staff are bringing their own devices to work. They would surely protest if you are installing extra software on their device or wiping out all the data on their device when they leave the company, together with personal data like family photographs and holiday videos," added Mr Moorthy.
